FTC Chairwoman Edith Ramirez Announces Resignation

One week before the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump, democratic FTC commissioner and chairwoman Edith Ramirez has announced her resignation, effective February 10th.

During her time as a commissioner, the FTC brought approximately 500 actions against companies in a variety of industries. Under her leadership in November of 2015, the FTC made changes to the Telemarketing Sales Rule that banned telemarketers from accepting certain types of payment methods.

The leadership of the FTC now stands at just two commissioners, one from each party. President Trump will nominate three new commissioners and appoint a new chairman. By law, no more than three of the five commissioners can belong to the same political party.

When all is said and done, three republican commissioners, including the new chairman, and two democratic commissioners, will lead the FTC.
